STUDLEY LAUNCHES SUSTAINABLE REAL ESTATE PRACTICE Olivia Millar Named Director of Sustainability and Workplace Strategies, Firm to Support Accreditation of Studley Advisors
New York, NY, Feb 12, 2008 - /FLIERWIRE/-- International commercial real estate services firm Studley has launched the Sustainable Real Estate Practice to assist clients with making environmentally responsible real estate decisions and with achieving LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certification by the US Green Building Council for their office space or building.
Olivia Millar, one of Washington, DC's first LEED Accredited Professional (AP) commercial real estate advisors, will begin her new role as the firm's director of sustainability and workplace strategies with the launch of this new practice.
Mrs. Millar has been with Studley since September 2007 and throughout her six-year career has managed more than one million square feet of sustainable projects. She will serve as the company's chief spokesperson on LEED initiatives and act as primary LEED resource for Studley clients nationwide.
"In this day and age, sustainable counsel is an important service to offer our clients," shared Michael Colacino, Studley president. "The decision to create this practice comes after years of working on sustainable real estate assignments encompassing both interior and base-building LEED projects. Our firm is committed to staying at the forefront of industry trends in order to continue serving the evolving needs of our clients."
Studley's sustainable initiatives also include supporting the firm's real estate advisors from its 19 U.S. office becoming LEED accredited, according to Mr. Colacino.
The Sustainable Real Estate Practice will work with Studley's clients to prepare a Sustainable Goals Assessment to ensure that all of their environmental objectives are considered and protected during site selection and negotiation of their lease or acquisition agreement.
"The key to keeping a LEED project on schedule and on budget is identifying potential LEED credits or requirements early in the real estate process that can be achieved with minimal capital expenditure," said Mrs. Millar. "Studley's Sustainable Real Estate Practice will offer clients LEED accredited real estate professionals to participate in the earliest stages of their projects."
Studley clients nationwide will have access to LEED accredited real estate professionals to review site features, lease language, design plans, material and furniture selection, construction procedures and documentation preparation to help them ensure a successful LEED certification process. The firm's experience with LEED programs includes LEED for New Construction, LEED for Core & Shell, and LEED for Commercial Interiors.
To date, Studley has worked with clients on the development of more than six million square feet of LEED certified space, including recent projects for U.S. Census Bureau, American Trucking Association, SEIU, and Conservation International. Studley also worked on the largest LEED-CI project in the country.
Prior to joining Studley, Mrs. Millar worked for Mancini Duffy where she served as the firm's first LEED manager, creating sustainable commercial interiors for nonprofit, financial, retail and government clients. She received both her master's degree in interior architecture and bachelor's degree in graphic design from George Washington University, where she was a Presidential Arts Scholar.
