Brokers Build Hosts Fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity - New York City

New York, NY, Nov 1, 2007 - /FLIERWIRE/-- Real Estate Community Comes Together to Raise Money for
Affordable Multifamily Complex in Brooklyn

New York - Brokers Build, an organization compiled of New York City's top real estate brokers dedicated to raising funds for Habitat for Humanity - New York City, recently hosted an event to celebrate the construction of Habitat - NYC's largest project to date.

"There is not a better or more fitting cause for brokers than to support an organization like Habitat - NYC," said Stan Ponte, chairman of Brokers Build and president of Coldwell Banker Hunt Kennedy Previews International. "We are helping to build not only homes, but we are building a chance at home ownership for many New Yorkers who never thought it was possible. This is the American Dream."

The Habitat - NYC project, located at 1870 Eastern Parkway on the corner of Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, will be comprised of three, four-story buildings with 41 homes total, making it Habitat - NYC's largest project to date. Brokers Build has a goal of raising $1 million to fund the construction of 11 of the homes. The project, designed by Dattner Architects, broke ground on June 5, and real estate industry volunteers from Brokers Build will begin building Nov.16. The project is being constructed with energy-efficient and environmentally friendly materials and is being designed to qualify for a LEED rating, which will save the homeowners up to 30 percent on their energy bills.

"With the help and support of Brokers Build and Habitat - NYC, instead of paying my rent, I will be paying my mortgage," said Zerika Griffith, a future owner of one of the 41 homes, who is spending her weekends building side-by-side with volunteers. "It is because of Habitat for Humanity that owning a home has become a reality and this opens the door for many other families."

The fundraising event was held at 260 West Broadway, a private residence currently on the market with Sotheby's International Realty. Attendees of the event enjoyed beverages provided by Anheuser Busch that were donated by Gotham magazine, as well as additional liquor provided by Quest magazine, and food catered by Café Metro, which was donated by Wells Fargo. Other event donors included Joshua Judge of Coldwell Banker Hunt Kennedy Previews International and Jeff Mann of Mann Publications.
